Keep up with cleaning doggie's ears, as we all know, he can't do it himself!!! I like to use the 8-in-1 brand ear cleaner and ear drying gel. If your dog won't hold still for long, just saturate a cottonball with cleaner, place it just inside the ear canal, press the ear flap tp his head for couple of seconds and let him shake it out.BE CAREFUL AND PICK UP THE USED COTTONBALL AFTER IT DROPS TO THE GROUND OR ELSE DOGGIE MIGHT EAT IT. ALREADY HAPPENED TO ME! The drying gel is nice because if the dog isn't very patient and won't hold still for you, you just slick some on a gloved finger or cottonball and cover the inside ear canal, all surfaces, not the ear flap, and not too deep, as this could really hurt the dog. Hope this helps with those of us with wiry coonhounds who are not interested in the pampering thing (it's not pampering, it's just good hygeine and could prevent some nasty ear problems-at least they think it's pampering...they'd rather be dirty and houndy smelling, but I like to hug & kiss my coonhounds and feel better when I keep up with their hygeine! Don't we all!! Petsmart groomers might call in the middle of an attempted bath because your coondog jumped out of the tub!!! Better to do the job yourself!!! 2 out the 3 coonhound I own don't want any part of the bathtub, so, luckily, we have a deck attached to the front, so I tie the out there on a short leash, have a large bucket of dog shampoo/warm water and bath them with an old washcloth or sponge then change the water and simply rinse off with the cloth or sponge. They really like this and they don't make a big fuss about getting a bath, probably the fear of being immersed in water. (probably cause there's no racoon to chase in the water, but the goal is to get clean and get rid of the houndy smell!!!
