Yes they are high energy, but they do in fact lay around for a good portion of the day.  Animal behavior shows that most dogs do not do well alone for long periods, in doors.  Maybe you should evaluate how you have trained your dogs instead of trying to act like an authority on coonhounds (which you are not) and discourage people from owning a great animal, that is one of the best animals for a family with children as well as a family that actively hunts!
